FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

ONE OF ENTERTAINMENT’S MOST RENOWNED STARS, ACADEMY AWARD®, EMMY®, TONY® AND GRAMMY® WINNER RITA MORENO, STARTS PRODUCTION WITH RACHEL BOSTON ON ‘SMALL MIRACLES’ (working title changed to 'A GIFT OF MIRACLES') A HALLMARK MOVIES & MYSTERIES ORIGINAL WORLD PREMIERE 2015

Film Has Begun Production in Vancouver

Hallmark Movies & Mysteries proudly announces world renowned star Rita Moreno (“West Side Story”), one of entertainment’s most respected talents as a winner of all four of the industry’s prestigious awards, an Oscar®, Emmy®, Tony® and Grammy®, will co-star with “Witches of East End” star Rachel Boston in “Small Miracles,”  a Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Original World Premiere in early 2015.  The film, which is in production in Vancouver, stars Moreno and Boston as two strangers whose chance encounter through a series of small coincidences gives one young woman a new perspective on life, love and the world’s unexplained marvels.

“The dynamic Rita Moreno is a powerhouse of talent and charm and we are honored and privileged to welcome her to the Crown Media family,” said Michelle Vicary, Executive Vice President of Programming, Crown Media Family Networks. “Along with the talented Rachel Boston, the cast for ‘Small Miracles’ already makes it a must-see movie for our viewers on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.”

In “Small Miracles,” Boston stars as Darcy Miller, a scientific graduate student and true-blue realist, who comes across a list of belongings the mother she never knew planned to give to close friends and family.  To find out more about her, Darcy sets out to fulfill her mother’s wishes only to find herself encountering small-but-miraculous events, each laced with a piece of wisdom that helps guide her in her career and understanding of life.  Although challenging her rational views of the world, Darcy’s journey becomes an unexpected gift of self-discovery.  When events lead her to the door of a stranger (Moreno) she’s never met, but with whom she shares an unbelievable bond, Darcy discovers there are marvels in this world, even small ones, that defy explanation while being unmistakable in their meaning.

Rita Moreno, one of entertainment’s few stars to win the grand slam of the industry’s most prestigious awards—the Emmy®, the Tony®, the Grammy® and the Oscar®—is one of the busiest and most highly-regarded talents in show business.  Hailing from Puerto Rico, Moreno began her storied, nearly seven-decade career with a Broadway debut at age 13 and quickly proved her wide-ranging talents as a singer, actress and dancer.  Her most memorable performances include her Academy Award-winning role as Anita in the film version of “West Side Story” in 1962, her comedic triumph as Googie Gomez in Broadway’s 1975 production of The Ritz and a six-season starring role on the PBS children’s educational variety series, “The Electric Company.”  Most recently, Moreno appeared regularly as Fran Drescher’s mother in the TV series “Happily Divorced” and lent her voice as Aunt Mimi in the animated feature film “Rio 2.”  Over the decades, she has collected numerous awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  In 2014, Moreno received the Screen Actors Guild’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Rachel Boston recently starred in the Hallmark Channel Original Movie “A Ring by Spring” and has appeared in romantic comedy features such as “500 Days of Summer” with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel and “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” with Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner.  As ‘Ingrid Beauchamp’ in Lifetime’s “Witches of East End,” now in its second season, Boston stars opposite Julia Ormond, Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Madchen Amick.

“Small Miracles” is a Johnson Production Group Inc. production, executive produced by Timothy O. Johnson and Jean Abounader, produced by Oliver DeCaigny, associate produced by Rachel Boston, directed by Neill Fearnley and written by Bart Fisher.
